Foster a Cat and Help Save a Life

Cause 4 Paws does not have a shelter of its own.  We rely on our dedicated volunteers to FOSTER rescued cats and kittens until permanent loving homes can be found.  The number of cat rescues is limited only by the number of foster homes available for them!

What is FOSTERING?  Foster parents are volunteers who bring unwanted or homeless cats/kittens into their homes, provide food and care for them, love them, and help socialize them until they are adopted.  [By doing so, they are saving lives!!!]  When the cat/kitten is ready to go to its purr-fect permanent home, the foster parents give them one last kiss and send him/her on their way.  What a wonderful feeling to see an adorable cat/kitten find a loving, happy forever home.

The cats will be tested for FIV (feline aids) and FeLV (feline leukemia) and when old enough will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered.  Cause 4 Paws will handle all of the adoption and screening procedures.  The cats will be listed under Cause 4 Paws at c4p.petfinder.org.

Considerations before fostering a cat:  Becoming a foster parent for a cat/kitten is very rewarding and enjoyable, but it is also a big responsibility and should not be taken lightly.  The most important factor to consider before deciding to foster is: Do you have the time and resources for this cat/kitten that will rely on you for food, love and socialization?

1. Do you have the room to foster?  We recommend that foster cats be housed in their own room or area, away from existing pets.  This allows the foster cats to be socialized properly without causing stress to your current pets.

2. Do you have time to feed, change liter boxes and socialize your fosters?

3. Will you be willing to take time to show your fosters to potential adopters, either by bringing the cats to weekend adoption days or permitting people to meet them in your home?

If you answered YES to all three, you are ready to foster!

This is Aussie with all her beautiful babies in their foster home. She is only a baby herself being only about 7 months old (This doesn't effect her mothering skills though as she is a very loving and nurturing mommy)  There are many others just like her in the same situation who desperately need foster homes.  She does most of the work!  Adopt A Cat Foundation provides food, litter box, medical care, etc. You provide the love, care and attention! You only need a spare room for them to stay in. Foster cats should not mingle with household cats. This is a precaution for the health and safety of all the cats.

Every year millions of cats and kittens are killed in shelters, millions more die because they are abandoned and are left to fend for themselves. Foster homes provide a temporary place for a cat where they can learn the social skills of living with a family. A kitten or cat usually stays in foster care until they are ready to be adopted. The more foster homes we have the more cats we can rescue.

Foster homes are a necessity for all rescue groups. So if you love cats and have a spare room, please consider becoming a foster parent. The rewards are great, it’s a lot of fun plus you do it at your convenience.
